CLAT OR AILET: WHICH ONE TO PREFER ATTEMPTING?
The two most highly competitive law admissions examinations in India are AILET as well as CLAT. CLAT: About
The national-level examination, i.e., the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted every year by accepting applicants from 22 participating National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. The Consortium of National Law Universities conducts the exam, which assesses an applicant’s competence in five different sections. They are:

AILET: About
The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET)is conducted every year by the National Law University of Delhi. The National Law University in Delhi and other law schools that recognize the AILET offer admission through the AILET.TheNational Law University of Delhi assesses an applicant’s competence in 3 different sections. They are:
- English Language
- Current affairs & General knowledge
- Logical reasoning
CLAT and AILET: Eligibility
CLAT: The applicant must have obtained at least 45% in total in their 10+2 exam, or any exam of an equivalent level (40% for reserved groups). Applicants who would be taking the 10+2 examination in that year are also eligible to apply.
AILET: The applicant is required to have completed the 10+2 exam or any exam that is equivalent to at least 50% of total marks (45% for reserved groups). Applicants who would be taking the 10+2 examination in that year are also eligible to apply.

CLAT:
- For General, OBC, PWD, NRI, POI, OCI, Kashmiri Migrants- 4000 rupees
- For SC and ST- 3500 rupees
- For BPL- 3500 rupees
AILET:

- For SC and ST-1500 rupees

CLAT and AILET: Examination Pattern
CLAT: The examination is conducted in offline mode, i.e., in pen and paper. The paper consists of 120 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 2 hours. It consists of objective-type questions with 300-450 words comprehension passages with each question carrying one mark. There is a 0.25-mark deduction for negative answers.
AILET: The examination is conducted in offline mode, i.e., in pen and paper. The paper consists of 150 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 2 hours. It consists of only multiple-choice questions in every section with each question carrying one mark.There is a 0.25-mark deduction for negative answers.

CLAT and AILET: Which is Better and Easier?
- The applicant’s interests and professional goals ultimately determine which exam to take, CLAT or AILET. CLAT is a better choice if an applicant intends to study law at any of the 22 participating NLUs. However, AILET is a preferable choice if the applicant wants to study law extensively only at NLU Delhi or other prestigious law schools that recognize AILET scores.
